Frequently Asked Questions

  • What types of clients do you work with?

I work with individuals, premarital couples, and families. My niche is college students and yougn adults. My specialties include anxiety, grief, and faith-related concerns.

  • Do you offer in-person or online sessions?

Yes, I offer in-person sessions in the Gainesville/Newberry area as well as secure telehealth sessions to clients located anywhere in Florida.

  • How long are sessions?

Most sessions are 50 minutes. Longer sessions (such as 75–90 minutes for couples, family, or premarital counseling) are also available.

  • What can I expect in the first session?

The first session is an intake, which is unlike what you would normally expect from a typical counseling session. It is focused on getting to know you, clarifying your goals, and making sure therapy feels like a good fit. We’ll also go over paperwork, confidentiality, and policies.

  • How much does counseling cost?

My typical session rate is $120 for 50 minutes. For premarital sessions, I charge $150 for 90 minutes.

  • Do you accept insurance?

No. I am considered an out-of-network provider. Many clients choose to submit a “superbill” to their insurance company for potential reimbursement. I can provide this documentation if needed.

  • What is a superbill?

A superbill is a detailed receipt of your counseling sessions that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Because I am a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (RMHCI) practicing under supervision in Florida, insurance companies may limit or adjust reimbursement compared to sessions with a fully licensed provider. Reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends on your insurance plan. I can provide the necessary documentation if you choose to submit a claim.

  • How often should I come to counseling?

Most clients start with weekly sessions. Over time, we may adjust to bi-weekly or monthly depending on your needs and goals.

  • What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations to avoid a late cancellation fee.

  • How long will I be in therapy?

The length of therapy is different for everyone. Some clients work on specific goals short-term, while others benefit from longer-term support.

  • Is counseling confidential?

Yes. Everything you share is confidential with a few exceptions required by Florida law:

If there is suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or vulnerable adult.

If there is risk of serious harm to yourself or others.

If records are subpoenaed by a court of law.

Also, I may discuss your case with my supervisor, though confidentiality is maintained.

  • Do I have to be a Christian to see you?

No. You do not need to be a Christian to receive counseling. I respect and work with clients of all faith backgrounds or no faith at all. If you would like, I can incorporate Christian perspectives into therapy, but it is always optional and tailored to your needs and beliefs.

  • Who is your supervisor?

As a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (RMHCI) in Florida, I practice under supervision as I work toward independent licensure. My clinical supervisor is:

    Deborah Garren, LMHC, License # MH13803 dgarren5923@gmail.com

This ensures you are receiving high-quality, ethical care with additional support behind the scenes.

  • Are you able to prescribe medication?

No. As a counselor, I do not prescribe medication. If needed, I can refer you to a psychiatrist or medical provider for medication management.
